How to properly clean a faucet
After purchasing the mixer, read the instructions that came with it. It usually indicates the material from which the plumbing tool is made, and faucet care tips. This information will help you choose the right cleaning products and the right tactics to care for your purchase. But there are also general rules. Using them, you will maintain the functionality and excellent appearance of the mixer for a long time.
So how to clean polished chrome fau?
- faucet cleaning products should not contain acid, especially phosphoric acid; choose products marked “Without phosphoric acid”;
- do not use toilet cleaners for cleaning;
- use neutral products or those that have a slightly alkaline reaction;
- do not leave the product on the mixer longer than indicated in the instructions for its use;
- do not use bleaches (especially chlorine) or solvents for cleaning;
- do not use different cleaning products at the same time; mixing them may result in the formation of substances that are aggressive to the faucet coating and hazardous to your health;
- do not use abrasive substances or rough materials for cleaning;
- do not pour or spray the cleaning agent directly onto the faucet, this may damage it; apply the product to a soft cloth and wipe the faucet with it;
- to remove small dirt, rinse the mixer with water, you can use a soap solution, then wipe the mixer dry with a soft cloth.
Manufacturers recommend cleaning faucets only when they become dirty. But when you do DIY faucet maintenance, sometimes all you need to do is rinse it with clean water and wipe it dry with a soft cloth. In this case, cleaning with special products may not be necessary at all.
Copper-plated or gold-plated faucets require special attention. Read the manufacturer’s advice carefully and do not use products that are not recommended by them. Special cleaning products are produced for such coatings. Use water frequently to clean these products and remember to wipe them down after use.
How to carry out prevention
Simple preventive measures will also increase the trouble-free operation of the mixer. Pay attention to the condition of the gaskets, and change them on time to prevent faucet leaks. If the mixer is under warranty, it is better to use the services of a service center specialist. Otherwise, minor faults can be corrected yourself.
Clean the aerator. If hardness deposits have formed, remove the aerator. Treat the plastic part of the aerator with vinegar or a descaling agent, avoiding contact of these products with the chrome parts. After treatment, rinse the aerator with plenty of clean water, wipe dry and reinstall.
